San Diego Chargers – An Overview of San Diego's Claim To NFL Fame
The San Diego Chargers are one of California's NFL football teams, and were founded in 1960 as a part of the AFL. They joined the NFL in 1970 following the merger. They are one of three NFL teams in California, along with the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders. In 1963, prior to becoming a member of the NFL, the Chargers did win one AFL title, and made it to the American Football League playoffs 5 times and on to the AFL Championship 4 times. Since they joined the NFL in 1970, the Chargers have reached the playoffs 13 times, with 4 trips to the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship game as well. This team has 6 players and 1 coach that have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The chargers have made one and only Super Bowl appearance so far. They played against the San Francisco 49ers in 1994 for the Super Bowl title, but were defeated by their rival California NFL team. From 2006-2009 the Chargers won four straight divisional titles.
