About the San Francisco 49ers – An NFL Dynasty
The 49ers are California's most successful football team, and play in the West Division of the NFC in the National Football League. They were established in 1946, and joined the NFL in 1949 after the AAFC – NFL merger. Their home stadium is Levi's Stadium that is located in Santa Clara, California. Their biggest claim to fame is winning 5 Super Bowl championships between 1981 -1994, making them tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the second most Super Bowl Championship wins. Their final Super Bowl win was against CA state rival the San Diego Chargers. They also earned the title for winning the most regular season games in both the 80's and 90's. It is no wonder they are regarded as one of the most successful NFL dynasties, and one of the most supported teams in California football betting. The Oakland Raiders are another successful California football team, but their achievements do not match those of the 49ers.
Glory Days of the San Francisco 49ers
Earning their name from the region's ties to the California Gold Rush in 1849, the San Francisco 49ers are also the oldest professional sports team in the state of California. Following their glory days in the 80's and 90's that included their 5 Super Bowl and NFC Championship wins, including two consecutive NFC and Super Bowl titles in 88 and 89, they then experienced their more challenging era without an NFC or Super Bowl win for years. With an ownership change and several coach changes since that time, 2012 saw them fight their way back to good standing with their first NFC Championship win in 18 years. The current head coach is Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh is the former head coach of Stanford University, the same position Bill Walsh hailed from when he came to lead the 49ers in their impressive comeback in the early 80's.
Bill Walsh's Keen Eye For Talent
The San Francisco 49ers have a rich history that includes some of the most famous players in the NFL, including Joe Montana, who was recruited in coach Bill Walsh's first draft following a glorious college career at Notre Dame. Montana led the Fighting Irish to their 1977 national title among other storied accomplishments, though scouts considered him more of a system player, causing him to be somewhat overlooked by many. Another notable recruit by Walsh was Dwight Clark, who had also gone under the radar of numerous scouts. Clark proved to be another great catch for the team, proving Walsh's prowess as a keen eye for talent. This successful coach led the 49ers to three of their 5 NFC and Super Bowl titles. Fans of the San Francisco 49ers have high hopes that Jim Harbaugh can achieve the same type of turnaround and comeback that Walsh did back in the 80's.
Interesting Trivia About the San Francisco 49ers
Current head coach Jim Harbaugh was played Screech's cousin on an episode of "Saved By The Bell".
Punter for the 49ers Andy Lee never watched a football game in person growing up, with his first NFL game attendance being as a member of the 49ers in 2004.
The term "Kaepernicking" which is a word that was coined to describe the player's habit of kissing his tattooed bicep after he successfully scores a touchdown has become so popular that he has filed for a trademark on the word.
Colin Kaepernick raised more than $200,000 in 2013 his golf tournament Against All Odds. The proceeds benefit a camp that provides assistance to children with heart defects.
In 2013 Kaepernick broke the record for the most single-game rushing yards with 181 yards.
